Driving to San Antonio
Since it was rush-hour, I decided to the the back way to I-10 (through Magnolia, Brookshire). It was a less stressful than being on the Katy Fwy. Especially with an under-powered van pulling a massive trailer.
Pulling the trailer was definitely a strain on the van. It took quite a while to get up to 55 mph, and it really hurt my gas mileage! More money I had to spend!!!!!!!!!!!
Once I got to Brookshire, I stopped at a truck stop to fill up with gas and grab something to eat. I got a really bad ham/cheese sandwich, a little fried cherry pie, and much to my chagrin, the Coke dispenser was out of syrup!! I dumped that out and tried Pepsi... something was wrong with that, too!!! My only caffeinated option left was Dr. Pepper. Oh, well.
Got back on the road and had a fairly uneventful drive to San Antonio. It tooks some time getting used to the trailer. I had to average about 50 to 55 mph, or the trailer would start fish-tailing. I felt like I was crawling along!! I was really sleepy now.
I managed to get to San Antonio about 10:30 pm. Normally a 4-hour trip became a 5-hour trip.
The cats did really well. The "boy" (Kosmo) only started getting really restless during the last 30 minutes of the trip. I never had to sedate them!
I let them out in the bedroom I was going to sleep in. The "boy" prompty hid under the bed, while Cordelia explored the room.
That day had been unbelievably hot and humid, and I must have sweated out at least a gallon. It felt good to take a shower and hit the bed around 11:00 pm.
I was up about 7:45 am, Thursday, June 16th. Started to pack my suitcase back into the van and get the cats back in. The "boy" didn't want to go! I wound up removing the mattress and box springs off the bed in order to get him.
My mother had packed me a couple of sandwiches, chips, fruit and some bottled water in my cooler. Thanks, Grandma!!!!
I finally got on the road about 9:00 am and was determined to drive through to Arizona.
