Movex Problems - Part 8 (The End)

The saga of our problems with Movex (Movex Movers -- You Load, We Drive, You Save™) is finally over. I have been battling with them for a few weeks regarding a refund of some sort. I sent them proof that we were shorted in the number of feet in the truck (we paid for 22', got about 19 1/2'). I had also paid an extra $95 to them for a second stop (at our storage facility) that I didn't used (didn't trust the driver to navigate the storage facility without him taking down a few buildings or at least a fence or two).

The customer service (manager!?) "Don" agreed to give us a refund of 4' (at $120 per foot), plus $100 per day for being late (2 days late). I guess he thought he was being generous by giving us 4' off, instead of 3', because when I told him that I also wanted the $95 for the second stop taken off since we didn't use it, he flat out refused to refund that! We went 'round and 'round on the phone for about 15 minutes and he said that he couldn't refund that. I told him he needed to find a way and get back to me.

Days went by without a word, so I called back and Don was not in that day. I spoke with Brenda and relayed the situation. She asked me to fax a letter to them stating that the second stop wasn't used. Fine. Did that. Days go by... no word from Movex. I called back and they were waiting for verification from the truck driver that my letter was correct.

I offered to call the driver and talk to him about it. I still had his cell # on my speed dial. I could tell something was up when he answered right away... he said he was in the hospital about to go into surgery. He wasn't in any mood to help me. "I delivered your stuff, what does it matter how many stops there were?!" Click. He hung up on me.

I called Don and told him the situation. He said "OK", they would deal with it. A few days later, a credit if $780 showed up on credit card activity! Finally!

Let me make a few comments about Movex. (Perhaps someone will be Googling "Movex" and this will show up...)

  • Avoid Movex like the plague
  • Movex is unreliable
  • Movex will not return phone calls / emails
  • Use another moving company, not Movex
  • If you have a problem with Movex, be persistent until the situation is resolved.
  • For a company with advertisements and a website (not to mention the "on-hold" recording when you call them) that proclaims their excellent customer service and a stress-free move... they provide neither!
I wish I had found this website before we moved: MovingScam.com -- after skimming the forums there, I see that we aren't the only ones that have had difficulties with Movex.

Again, let me reiterate... Don't Use Movex for your Move. May I suggest a new slogan: Movex Movers -- We Might Show Up. We Drive and Have Truck Problems. You Stress Out.™

Thanks Kerry. I *did* do a Yahoo search for Movex problems and your site *did* come up. Good use of HTML on your part! ;) I'm about to do a long move and don't need the hassle that Movex gave you.

Sorry to hear about your Movex issue ... how did you end up using that company anyway? I used this website http://www.moving-estimate.net, who sent me multiple moving quotes. One of those companies gave me the website http://www.moving-scams.com; I'm performing a local move this afternoon . . . I'll try and come back online and let you know how my move goes

Did you ever contact the ceo, Stuart Suddath? That is who I am wanting to contact after our experience with this "company."
We were contacted by movex two days before our expected move date and told that the truck would be early. They did not have a truck available on the day that we had one reserved...so what we reserved exactly, I do not know. They contacted us at between 4:30 and 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday and told us that the truck would be there around noon the next day Wednesday (i.e., we had less than 24 hours notice that our date had changed and a truck would be there the next day). We were promised a 10% discount for this problem, but are currently fighting with the company for this.
When the truck arrived, we were also shorted on feet. We were promised 10 linear feet and measured 8.5 ft. We did get all of our stuff to its destination, but only after a completely stressful and hellish situation.

Do not use MOVEX. I hope you google or yahoo this becaues everyone deserves to know how Movex does business. I used Movex because their staff and customer support were all very friendly and the price was reasonable. What I didn't know was that they would damage most of my belonings and NOT refund any of it. I purchased the MAXIMUM insurance, but it only covered catastrophic events, such as lightning, and if the truck was wrecked. Movex takes responsibility for damages at 10 cents per pound!!!!! What kind of stuff is worth 10 cents per pound???? This is ridiculous. Most of my furniture were damaged and the driver who delievered the stuff just took off. I could go on and on about this, but the bottom line is that I would not use Movex again, even if it was free. DON'T USE MOVEX. The will not accept your claims more than 10 cents. I received 20 dollars back for my stuff, and the damages were in the thousands....it did not even cover the insurance premium I paid for.

MOVEX REVIEW

MOVEX is horrendous!!! They offer damage protection for 10 cents per pound. DO NOT USE MOVEX. They may be friendly and customer service oriented prior to your decision to whether or not use their service. But follow my advice and save yourself a lot of headaces and money by NOT USING MOVEX. Everything I put in the trailer was more or less damaged. Because I could not prove that the trailer had been in an accident, I did not receive any compensation at all. Maybe there was no accident, but reckless driving and they had unloaded my stuff from one trailer to another...and NOT packed it properly. MOVEX REVIEW WORST POSSIBLE COMPANY EVER. MOVEX, CHEAP, IRRESPONSIBLE AND NO PROTECTION FOR YOUR GOODS
