Movex Problems - Part 7 (Delivery Day!)

As soon as I woke up on Tuesday, June 21, I called David The Truck Driver to see where he was. He was in Arizona! But still not to Tucson. He estimated it would be around 10:00 am before he was at the apartment. I called "3 Gorillas Moving" and made them aware of the time. No problem.

10:15 am and still no truck. I called... he'd be here sometime after 11:00 am. OK... called the "Gorillas" and told them to be here about 11:30 am.

Praise The Lord! The truck had arrived! The "Gorillas" arrived! Time to unload. The "Gorillas" were three guys who knew exactly what they were doing. They unloaded promptly and carefully. They had a 24' truck, so I had them put all the items going to storage in their truck -- I didn't trust David The Truck Driver to maneuver through the storage facility.

Everything made it OK, a few scratches and chips here and there. The loading crew in Houston definitely wasn't the best. The "Gorillas" remarked how poorly the last part of the truck was loaded (though they admit that's always the hardest part).

They spent about 2 1/2 hours unloading at the apartment and loading their truck with the rest of the stuff. It was really hot that day! About 110°F. We saw on the local news later that night that it was unusually hot due to some rather unique atmospheric conditions... but that it would be a relatively cool 100°F by the end of the week! But it's true what they say... it's a dry heat! I was able to stand out in the heat and sun and it wasn't that bad -- it was MUCH worse in Houston the day we loaded up the U-Haul trailer. So if 110°F is the worst it can get, I can definitely handle it!

As I had mentioned before, I had thought we were shorted on the amount of space we were allotted on the truck. We were supposed to have 22'. When the truck was empty, I got out my 25' Tape Measure. The results: WE ONLY HAD 19'!!!!! WE WERE ROBBED!!!!! The people from Sugarland who had their stuff in the front of the truck took too much space!! Because of that, I had to get the hitch, U-Haul trailer, and what should have been a 15-hour drive turned into a 23-hour drive!!! I called Movex to demand a refund!!! Of course, the person in charge was out for the day....

Anyway, the Gorillas followed me to the storage unit a few miles away. They were able to back their truck and ramp right into the doorway of the storage unit. So they had everything unloaded in about 45 minutes. The 10'x20' storage unit is packed high to the ceiling! (I was originally going to get a 10x15 unit, but I'm glad I went for the larger unit!).

Finally, we had all our stuff!!!
